It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lenore Juliana (Hill) McDonald on December 19, 2016 due to complications from chemotherapy. She was 75 years young.
Lenore was born on Sept 13, 1941 in Glen Eden, BC to John and Juliana Hill. She was the youngest of 4 children after Leroy, Leonard, and Lawrence. She was also a special sister to Patricia. Lenore was raised near a small logging community on Vancouver Island, then moved to Victoria and eventually relocated to Calgary where she met and married her husband Ian in January 1969.
Their first daughter Yvette was born in Calgary followed by Shelley and Deanna who were born in Melfort.
Lenore attended Business College in Victoria. This education provided her with opportunities in Calgary where she was a telephone operator and also an administrative assistant. In Melfort, Ian and Lenore ventured into their first business building a Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise in 1971 from the ground up. After 10 years they bought the old Co-op strip mall and were land lords and also operated a gift shop, The World of Cards. Their next endeavor was a Smitty’s franchise which they owned and operated until their early retirement in 1996. Lenore then decided to take a Home Care/Special Care Aide course where she worked at the Melfort Union Hospital and Parkland Regional Care Center as a production assistant in the kitchen until 2005.
Yvette then invited her Mom to live with her in Saskatoon where she was gainfully employed. She was a production assistant at Ilarion Residence, an assisted living care giver with Home Instead and finally at the Regional Psychiatric Center in housekeeping until her retirement in 2012.
Lenore enjoyed spending time at the lake with her friends and family, travelling with Yvette to Belize in 2014 and Disneyland this past February with the entire family. She also had a green thumb and loved to putter in the yard where she could enjoy the sunshine.
Lenore’s compassionate nature and patience enabled her to look after Ian until his passing in 1999. She was also predeceased by her parents, daughter Shelley in 1987, and her two brothers, Leroy and Leonard. She is survived by her daughter Yvette, daughter Deanna (Dennis) Stai and her two special grand-daughters, Juliana and Georgia Stai as well as her brother Lawrence, special sister Patricia and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lenore was always up for anything and was a good sport. She lived life to the fullest with her big smile, genuine caring nature and endearing laugh.
She touched many lives and will be lovingly remember by all who knew her.
